A £1m a year Film Council scheme to give cinema-goers across the UK a greater choice of films at the cinema has encouraged around 2 million people to see a range of critically acclaimed films, including Peter Webber?s Girl with a Pearl Earring,
Wolfgang Becker?s Goodbye Lenin!, and Pedro Almodovar?s Bad Education. The Specialised Prints and Advertising Fund was established in 2003, to invest in the cost of increased advertising and extra copies of films which would otherwise receive only a limited release. Since then, the Fund has backed a total of 20 films, helping to generate a total UK box office taking of almost £15m.
