Arts organisations in London will unite in a day-long festival in Trafalgar Square on September 26 to launch The Big Draw 2004. ?Art on the Square: Join the Party? is the culmination of the summer programme of free arts events in Trafalgar Square organised by the Mayor of London.

Using the day to launch its new series of Rolf on Art, the BBC is working in collaboration with the National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery and The Campaign for Drawing to present what is being hailed as the largest ever live television arts event. Rolf Harris (pictured) will be leading the day as hundreds of professional and amateur artists attempt to recreate John Constable?s The Hay Wain on a giant scale. The day will also see the opening of the new Getty Entrance to the National Gallery, offering visitors a direct route into the Gallery?s western art collection, which includes the original version of The Hay Wain.
