A new national agreement outlining terms and conditions of employment for administrative staff working in performing arts organisations, has been successfully negotiated by the Independent Theatre Council (ITC) and trade union Amicus.
The original ITC/Amicus Agreement was launched in the early 1980s in an attempt to establish good working practices for the employment of administrative staff. The new agreement, drawn up after consultation with ITC members, updates the old agreement to take into account new working practice and employment legislation. A key feature is the inclusion of a schedule offering guidance to employers wishing to improve on the minimum terms and conditions set out in the basic agreement. A spokesperson for Amicus, which represents many arts administrators, said the agreement underlined ?the union?s wish to ensure that those working in the sector are not exploited but develop positive and creative working relationships with their employers and establish the best employment practice in the sector.?
