Theatre venues across the UK are being invited to participate in the first UK audience benchmarking survey, a new initiative that aims to provide arts organisations with accurate but low-cost research information about their audiences. The UK-wide survey, the first of its kind in the arts sector, will question theatre ticket bookers about their perceptions of the venues they attend, as well as their theatre-going habits more generally.
It will also collect data about the demographic profile of attenders to provide a profile of the age, gender and cultural diversity of audiences, as well as other statistics that are commonly required to support funding bids. The data gathered from audiences will be used to generate benchmarks that participating organisations can use to assess their own achievements in comparison with others of a similar scale.
