An audit of the levels of activity in Irish language and Ulster Scots artforms has culminated in the publication of a report that makes a number of suggestions as to how Northern Ireland?s indigenous cultures could be better served, and the steps the Arts Council of Northern Ireland (ACNI) could take to improve provision.
Key issues raised by the audit are ?the onslaught? of mass-media, the prevalence of English language artforms and a lack of connection to traditional arts among young people. The report, which is designed to trigger a period of consultation and feedback, advocates that ACNI must ?provide the incentive for development? by offering grants and investing in audience development.
