A new partnership between the broadcaster Five and Arts Council England is set to bring about a range of high profile programmes, events, exhibitions and educational initiatives, starting in Liverpool. The new initiative, known as Fivearts cities, will see a different host city selected each year to become the focus of an intense period of arts activity, aiming to help people to find out more about the arts and to encourage their participation.
Five, formerly Channel Five, has commissioned a raft of arts programmes illustrating Liverpool?s contribution to the arts scene. Talks and debates will be staged involving the Biennial, Tate Liverpool, National Museums Liverpool and Bluecoat, and a series of courses will run throughout the year in conjunction with the Workers Educational Association, designed to encourage creativity in the community and in the workplace.
