A new guide to help small businesses ensure equality of opportunity has been published by The Commission for Racial Equality (CRE). ?Racial Equality and the Smaller Business? clarifies the legal position on unlawful discrimination, covering recruitment and customer service as well as offering sample policies and procedures which organisations can adopt and modify to meet their own needs.
While the guide is designed for small businesses generally, a spokesperson for the CRE was keen to emphasise its value to arts organisations. ?We understand that, despite good intentions, racial equality often comes a long way down the list of priorities for smaller businesses in the arts field. Good racial equality practices can play a pivotal role in attracting new visitors. We hope this guide will enable arts organisations to tap into a new market and ensure that Britain?s many theatres, galleries, concert halls and museums are accessible to all.? The guide is available on CD-ROM and at w: http://www.cre.gov.uk
