The Chief Executive of Scottish Opera has written to the Friends of the organisation warning of “stark choices” for the troubled National Company. Referring to their “biggest challenge for many years”, Christopher Barron goes on to say “we are faced with little choice but to make substantial changes to the company and its working practices.”
Scottish Opera has a growing deficit and is expected to require an advance of £4m of its 2004/2005 funding before the end of this financial year. In a statement, the Scottish Arts Council has made a commitment to “supporting Scottish Opera to develop its plans to provide high quality opera to a range of Scottish audiences within their known grant levels.”
