The shortlist for the UK?s largest single arts prize has been announced, including projects ranging from the Titian exhibition at the National Gallery, which attracted a record 250,000 visitors, to Pembrokeshire Museum Service?s touring exhibition of Romany culture housed in a Gypsy caravan.
The 13 shortlisted exhibitions range in theme from an historical collection of weapons made for children at the Royal Armouries to Thinktank?s Futures Gallery which includes the Micro Air Vehicle (pictured). The £100,000 Gulbenkian Prize for Museum of the Year seeks to reward innovation and excellence in museums while highlighting specific exhibitions. This year?s four finalists will now be selected by the judging panel and the ultimate winner will be announced in May. The inaugural Gulbenkian Prize was won last year by the National Centre for Citizenship and the Law, based at the Galleries of Justice in Nottingham.
