Schools, Further Education Colleges and libraries across the UK are set to benefit from ‘screenonline’, a new resource drawing together a range of stills, biographies and articles with archive material from the National Film and Television Archive.
Established by the bfi (British Film Institute) with support from the New Opportunity Fund, the new website at http://www.screenonline.org.uk marks the bfi’s first attempt to create online access to its collection of film and television material. Although the site has been designed primarily to provide a resource for use in education settings, a text- and stills-based version of the website will be globally accessible. At present there are more than 1,000 pages of information and more than 100 hours of streamed moving image material, and plans are in place for the ongoing expansion of the site.
