A programme of exhibitions, publications, talks, education projects and events will bring together photography from around the world at the first Brighton Photo Biennial (bpb), which opens next month and is set to become the most important photography event in the UK.

The bpb has been deliberately developed to attract new audiences, and the range of activities will extend beyond what might be assumed a core audience for contemporary art. The main exhibition is on dandyism at the Brighton Museum and Gallery. It aims to attract those interested in fashion, music and all forms of youth culture and includes work by Cecil Beaton, Andy Warhol and Sam Taylor-Wood (pictured). An outreach and education programme has been devised in collaboration with local organisations to explore the role of photography in our lives and develop an audience for contemporary photography in Brighton. An international conference will take place during the opening weekend of the Biennial, exploring the themes of the event, but also considering the nature of photography at the beginning of the twenty-first century and its future direction. w: http://www.bpb.org.uk
