CfBT (the Centre for British Teachers) is managing a new project on behalf of the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA) to create guidelines for teachers to support pupils who are gifted and talented in the creative arts.
The project stems from the Department of Culture Media and Sport?s (DCMS) Arts Green Paper ?Culture and Creativity: the Next Ten Years? (2001), which stated that the DCMS would work with the Department for Education and Skills to produce a framework for the development of gifted and talented artists in schools. Both ministries are sponsoring the project, with the support of Arts Council England.

During the present school term, CfBT is seeking case studies to illustrate good practice and the high quality that can be achieved. These will be followed up during the autumn, and will then form part of the guidance framework for identifying and motivating the more able student. The guidance will include written material and a supporting website, which CfBT aims to launch in April 2004.
