The city of Leeds has published its first ever cultural strategy, which identifies over £100m of investment for new developments in the cultural and leisure sector in the city over the next 5 years.
Plans include the refurbishment of the Grand Theatre, a new city museum, a new headquarters for Northern Ballet Theatre and Phoenix Dance, and a new theatre in Millennium Square. A new Cultural Partnership has been formed to champion the strategy and to promote Leeds as a cultural city. This is the seventh strategic partnership to be established under The Leeds Initiative, a strategic partnership body which was formed in the city in 1990. Led by Leeds City Council, the Initiative has brought together the public, private, community and voluntary sectors behind an agreed vision for the long-term economic, technological, environmental and cultural development of the city.
