The Arts and Humanities Research Board (AHRB) is to become a fully-fledged UK-wide research council, funded by the Office of Science and Technology.
The AHRB has grown significantly since its launch in October 1998, prior to which no dedicated source of funding for project research in the arts and humanities existed. With a budget of almost £70m per year, it provides a portfolio of programmes for research in the arts and humanities and makes approximately 600 research awards and almost 2,000 postgraduate awards.
