The first visible signs of the new Creative Quarter being developed in Folkestone?s old town have now appeared with the placing of a Sophie Ryder sculpture (pictured) on a bombsite that has been derelict for nearly 60 years.
The Folkestone initiative is being led by The Creative Foundation, spearheaded by Nick Ewbank, Director of the Metropole Galleries and Roger de Haan, Chairman of SAGA Group, and co-ordinated by Simon Mohr. Currently applying for charitable status, the Foundation is acquiring and renovating properties with grants and funding, and letting them to creative enterprises. The diverse range of occupants include media and website design companies, a bronze foundry, and a recording studio, as well as studio and gallery space for artists.
