Chicken Shed Theatre Company, the largest inclusive professional theatre company for young people in the UK, is launching a unique distance-learning programme in conjunction with Middlesex University?s School of Lifelong Learning and Education.
The first presentation of the programme, a postgraduate certificate entitled ?Inclusivity in the Performing Arts?, starts next month. It will provide students with the opportunity to study the philosophy and practice of the company, and will challenge both audience and practitioner notions of ?ability?, focusing on some controversial approaches to policy, performance, organisation, education and strategic planning. A week-long taster programme linked to the course and providing an introduction to Chicken Shed and inclusive theatre will be presented through Middlesex University's Summer School Programme in July. Chicken Shed already runs the UK?s only inclusive BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts, in conjunction with its local further education provider, Enfield College.
