The Directory of Social Change (DSC), which has been leading a consultation exercise on recent proposals by the Strategy Unit of the Government?s Cabinet Office for major changes to the legal and regulatory framework for charities, has asked for two its recommendations to be reconsidered.
Whilst welcoming the proposal that small community groups should no longer be compelled to achieve registered status to avoid breaking the law, DSC believes it would be wrong to forbid them to register with the Charity Commission if that is what they wish, or to remove from the register those who wish to stay on it. It is also opposing any easing of the rules on trustees being able to charge charities for their professional services.
