Nottingham Playhouse is to spend one fifth of its production budget for the year on a production of Errol John's classic play Moon On A Rainbow Shawl.
The production is to be produced by Steven Luckie, who has been appointed as the Eclipse Theatre Producer in an initiative involving Nottingham Playhouse, the New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich and Bristol Old Vic. Their collaboration has arisen from the recommendations published in the Arts Council of England?s Eclipse Report, which addressed the problems of racism in the theatre. The production, due to be staged at Nottingham Playhouse in February next year, will be directed by acclaimed Black director Paulette Randall and will feature a cast of thirteen. It will then tour throughout the UK. Steven Luckie, who previously produced the Theatre of Debate for the Royal National Theatre's Education Department and co-ordinated the Arts Council of England's Black Directors Course for the West Midlands, is also tasked with identifying key partners with which to raise the national profile of Black middle-scale work. Giles Croft, Nottingham Playhouse's Artistic Director said of the project, ?This initiative is going to have a profound influence on the future development of Black work on the middle-scale. It will provide opportunities for the development of Black practitioners alongside mainstage productions and help to grow new audiences for important work. That three such significant theatres have given this sort of commitment is a sign of real change.? For further information contact Steven Luckie t: 0115 947 4361;
