Barclays Stage Partners, a sponsorship scheme from Barclays PLC jointly run with the Arts Council of England, comes to the end of its six-year run this year, with four companies receiving a total of £334,756 for touring to venues across the UK this autumn.
Over the years the scheme, which was designed to generate new opportunities for collaborations between theatre organisations, has allocated £4.5m to support 65 tours which have visited over 164 venues across the UK, reaching a total audience of almost 2m. A diverse range of new drama has been created, including productions of the classics, plays by contemporary authors, tours by renowned international performance companies, new stagings of works by Shakespeare and original productions for children. This year, Shared Experience is touring a new adaptation of E.M. Forster?s A Passage to India adapted by Martin Sherman (pictured) Frantic Assembly a new production of Peepshow; Soho Theatre a revival of Be My Baby; and The Touring Consortium will present Arthur Miller's classic A View from the Bridge.
