Cross-border touring between England and Scotland has received a boost with the announcement by the Arts Council of England and the Scottish Arts Council of grants of over £600,000 to create access to the work of six performing arts companies outside their own countries.
Glyndebourne Touring Opera, Scottish Opera, Birmingham Royal Ballet, Scottish Ballet, Northern Ballet and the Royal National Theatre are all preparing for tours between now and 2003. Scottish Opera has scooped the lion?s share, with nearly £200,000 for tours to Brighton and Stoke on Trent. The tours will further support the company?s commitment to reaching beyond its established audiences in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Inverness; it has also just announced the re-introduction after ten years of its medium-scale touring activities. A fully staged production of La Bohème (pictured) will be taken to ten venues across Scotland during October 2002.
