The UK?s largest disability arts charity has celebrated its 25th anniversary with a celebratory event at RADA.
The evening was attended by special guests including deaf actress Elizabeth Quinn, who starred in ?Children of a Lesser God?. At the celebration she performed a Dorothy Miles poem called ?Total Communication?, which she signed and her husband translated for the hearing audience.

Shape, which was founded in 1986 by a group of disabled people who were angry about their exclusion from several large arts festivals and events at the time, provided services to over 30,000 disabled and deaf people last year and has won many awards including Guardian Charity of the Year (2001). Its most recent major project was at Tate Modern, where deaf people were trained as gallery guides, guiding in sign language. As well as working with arts organisations, it campaigns on related issues such as inaccessible public transport, lack of accessible parking at arts venues, safety on the street and increased training in disability and deaf awareness.
