Dr Andy Hickson describes Actionwork’s approach

Actionwork tours anti-bullying creative workshops to organisations throughout the UK and abroad, to help managers and staff learn about best practice for dealing with bullying in the workplace.

Using creative action, fun and dynamic activities, participants explore all aspects of bullying, including violence, cyberbullying, face-to-face bullying and name-calling, and how they can be dealt with by confidence building, friendships, respect, positive strategies, mediation and work-place policies. Each workshop provides an overview of anti-bullying strategies and how to implement policy and effective workplace programmes. Using creative activities, practical games and interactive teaching methods, the sessions explore themes such as what bullying means to us; how to recognise bullying and when to intervene; how to listen to people who suffer bullying; and building resilience and coping strategies. At the end of each workshop participants are able to define and describe bullying, recognise their own bullying behaviours and those of others, respond to bullying using creative and practical strategies and identify violent words and phrases commonly used in dealing with bullying.

Andy Hickson PhD is founder and Director of Actionwork. He produced the world’s first anti-bullying festival in 2006 and is author of ‘How to stop bullying’ (2011, published by Speechmark). W www.actionwork.com T 01934 815163
