The Dome Concert Hall in Brighton, which was due to re-open on February 24 after a £22m re-building and refurbishment project, finally opened its doors for the first time on March 2 with two performances of ?Storming the Dome: Brighton Muses?, a community piece developed over the past 12 months by local performers in collaboration with animateurs from the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the venue?s orchestra in residence.
The Dome had been due to open a week earlier, but an eleventh hour refusal by the local council to grant a safety certificate led to the cancellation of the planned opening performance by Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra, and the refund of all tickets. Despite the set-back, The Dome is already reporting strong demand for tickets, with bookings running at 102% of target just two days after the start of the season.
