A report of a three-year scheme to raise the profile of and access to traditional music within Scottish tourism has concluded that traditional musicians can give a boost to the tourist experience in Scotland and simultaneously benefit the Scottish economy and lead to a resurgence of interest in authentic Scottish music.
The scheme, the Traditional Music and Tourism Initiative, has been piloted by the Scottish Arts Council (SAC) and VisitScotland in communities across Scotland. 19 projects in 11 areas were funded, including traditional music on ferries, informal sessions in pubs and hotels, a promotional video and music festivals. Many projects were funded in partnership with local authorities, local enterprise boards and private sponsors. For a copy of ?Soundtrack for Scottish Tourism?, contact SAC t: 0131 226 6051.
