The first International Festival of Musical Theatre in Cardiff is to be staged from October 14 ? November 3, and will be the world?s first ever major international event for this artform.
Festival venues will include the New Theatre, Chapter and Sherman Theatre, and the programme will encompass events ranging from opera to pantomime, dance to cabaret and jazz to circus. Events will include fully staged musicals, concerts, master-classes, an education programme, a musical film season, a major exhibition and late night jazz and cabaret performances, plus an international theatre producers conference. The Festival will also feature a showcase of 9 short-listed pieces of new musical theatre which have been selected from the Global Search for a new Musical, which was launched in 2001 and has generated 178 new works from 14 different countries.
