Projects to attract new audiences to two local authority theatres in Hastings and Eastbourne are to be supported by South East Arts (SEA). Both projects support SEA?s priorities of cultural regeneration in coastal resorts, and reaching new young audiences and people from socially excluded communities.
Hastings? White Rock Theatre receives £35,000 to develop street performance involving a range of community groups, and Devonshire Park Theatre, which forms part of the Eastbourne Theatres group, receives over £40,000 to create a new regional drama role for Eastbourne Theatres. Last year market research revealed that the theatre?s core audience is over 55 years old, so a mix of new plays is planned to pull in younger and more diverse audiences well as retain existing audiences.
