News – Late Night London
Late night gallery openings are set to extend access to contemporary art galleries and popular museums across East London, starting on 3 May and linked to the Mayor of Londons Late Night London campaign aimed at promoting London as a 24-hour city. The First Thursdays initiative will see around 15 galleries in the area open their doors to the public until 9pm on the first Thursday of every month.
Participating galleries will include The Barbican, Chisenhale, The Drawing Room and the Museum of London, as well as scheme organisers Parasol Unit and The Whitechapel. Intending to encourage city workers to socialise after work, First Thursdays will also present special events, exhibition previews and specially curated tours, and a website will enable visitors to find out more and sign up for monthly e-newsletters.
