Scotlands Cultural Co-ordinators in Schools programme is set to benefit from a £5.8m boost over the next two years following a new funding pledge by Culture Minister, Patricia Ferguson. The cash will be drawn from the Scottish Executives Cultural Review budget of £20m, and is in addition to core annual funding of £750,000.
The Cultural Co-ordinator programme, managed by the Scottish Arts Council, was launched in 2002 and has since established a series of posts across Scotland with the aim of stimulating young peoples interest in the arts through attending performances and exhibitions and creating their own work. Patricia Ferguson said, This increased level of funding is in recognition of the positive role culture and the arts can make in the education and development of school children& Its crucial that schoolchildren are introduced to a wide range of cultural experiences from an early age, to help& instil them with a love for the arts which will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
