The Scottish Arts Council (SAC) has been authorised by the Scottish Executive to clear the Royal Scottish National Orchestras (RSNO) longstanding deficit. The move comes in advance of the Scottish Executive taking control of the countrys five national companies, including the RSNO.
The £1.4m debt was built up in the mid 1990s. In a statement, a Scottish Executive spokesperson said, The Scottish Arts Council has been authorised to clear the deficit on the condition the RSNO operates within agreed budgets from now on. A similar deal has been struck between SAC and the Executive to clear Scottish Ballets historic £300,000 deficit.
