A foyer performance space accommodating up to 650 people has been opened in the Queen Elizabeth Hall at Londons South Bank Centre (SBC). Known as The Front Room, the new space has been created by theatre designer, Michael Vale, and comprises a stage and a flexible seating area, plus a revamped ticket office, bar, catering and cloakroom facilities.
The venue will host cabaret-style contemporary music concerts, jazz and classical music performances, performance poetry, comedy, education initiatives and late-night club events. Each year SBC presents more than 300 free foyer events. While its major venue, the Royal Festival Hall, is closed for refurbishment, a full programme of activities continues in its other venues, the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Room and Hayward Gallery.
