UCAN Perform, a Cardiff-based creative arts project for visually impaired young people, has been named as the winner in the childrens category at this years National Lottery Awards. Voted for by the public, the awards were established in 2005 to celebrate successful Lottery projects.

Last year, UCAN Productions received a Lottery grant of £4,800 for a project offering visually impaired children the opportunity to take part in a series of drama workshops (pictured) concluding with a public performance. The organisation, which is run by a Young Peoples Steering Committee chaired by a 14 year-old musician, is now working with RNIB Cymru to train youth theatre professionals in theatres across Wales.
