News – Street struggles

The street arts sector in England is in a fragile state with weak infrastructure and a shortage of resources according to the Street Arts Healthcheck, recently published by Arts Council England (ACE). The publication, which summarises the health of the sector and explores the issues affecting street arts in England, paints a picture of a broad and diverse sector with a growing body of artists keen to produce work.

It highlights the financial difficulties facing many festivals around the country as a key threat to the future of street arts as well as the lack of a joined-up approach to the sector from ACE itself. The healthcheck is a key part of ACEs process in drawing together a strategy for street arts, which it intends to publish later this year.
