News – Licensing Act review
An in-depth review of the impact of the Licensing Act on ten local councils from around the country has found that, while the Act has increased public awareness of licensing regulations, further guidance is needed for local authorities and licensing venues. The sample councils were asked to identify good practice, capture licensing statistics and make practical recommendations on how the details of the legislation could be improved.
The report will be used to produce guidance for police and local authorities about the implementation of the Act. Licensing Minister, Shaun Woodward, said, & as this is the biggest shake-up of the licensing laws in more than 40 years, it stands to reason that there are going to be some improvements that can be made. We will be taking the councils recommendations on board as we re-draft the guidance for police and local authorities&
