Twenty-five sculptures, the work of apprentices who started with Rolls-Royce last September, have been exhibited at the Rolls-Royce Learning and Career Development Centre in Derby.
Sixty trainees took part in a four-day creativity and innovation programme, ‘Shaping Ideas’, under the guidance of artist Paul Needham and Tate Liverpool’s Naomi Horlock, exploring a range of theme words linked to the workplace, such as ‘time’, ‘transformation’ and ‘growth’. Working in small teams, the group was set a series of practical activities allowing them to consider ideas, and these were then developed in order to complete the artworks. The project is the latest development in a long-term partnership between Rolls-Royce and Tate Liverpool which began in 2004.
