An audit of the e-business and digital content capability of Regularly Funded Organisations (RFOs) in the Arts Council England North West region has found that big gaps exist between arts organisations’ aspirations and their current and planned capabilities and capacity.

The investigation, led by Hannah Rudman of Arts Magnet, revealed positive attitudes towards the artistic potential of digital media, with 100% of artistic directors in visual arts organisations and 76% in performing arts organisations stating that digital content fitted into their artistic vision. However, only 35% of RFOs have funding set aside for creating digital content. Among those noted in the report for being at the forefront of digital activity are Manchester’s Cornerhouse, which has recently worked on a live web link (pictured) with DJs in Tijuana, Mexico, and subsequently set up a webcast of the event.
