The national award for Outstanding Contribution to Tourism has been won by theatre producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh at the annual Enjoy England Awards for Excellence 2006. Other winners from the cultural sector were the National Maritime Museum, named as the Large Visitor Attraction of the Year, and Compton Verney Art Gallery in Warwickshire, as Small Visitor Attraction of the Year 2006.

The gallery (pictured), which was founded by British philanthropist Sir Peter Moores through the Peter Moores Foundation, opened in 2004 to wide acclaim and has since established itself as one of areas most significant attractions, housing six permanent collections and a changing programme of temporary exhibitions.
