News A record performance?
An attempt to break the world record for performing all of Gilbert and Sullivans operas back to back is being planned for this summer. The record attempt will mark the opening of this years annual Gilbert and Sullivan Festival in Buxton, which will include performances by Opera della Luna and the Tokyo Theatre Group (pictured).
Performances will take place at a range of venues across the Peak District with the aim of staging all 13 full operas within a 29 hour period. Buses will transport performers to each venue with the climax of the marathon being a fully costumed production of Ruddigore in Buxton Opera House to open the festival on 29 July. The festival organisers are planning to raise £25,000 from the performances in order to support a Gilbert and Sullivan Youth Festival in 2007.
