Ten areas across the country will pilot a scheme to operate a young peoples opportunity card which will offer discounted attendance at local arts events as well as from high street stores. The cards will be tested at a value of £12 a month for young people in some areas and £25 in others with the capacity to be topped-up with money by young people or their families.
The pilot areas are : Bolton, Cambridgeshire, Camden, Durham, Lincolnshire, Liverpool, Nottingham, Suffolk, Sunderland and Tower Hamlets. The plans have evolved from a Government green paper, and in its consultation, 83% of the 19,000 young people who responded were enthusiastic about the proposed leisure cards, while only 33% of the adults and organisations which responded agreed with the plan.
