News – New funding for culture capital
A new funding package worth £12m is set to underpin Liverpools arts and cultural activities in the run-up to the 2008 European Capital of Culture. Twenty seven organisations will share the City Council grants, and will move from an annual to a three-year funding cycle. The funding will cover a wider range of artforms, with recipients including Tate, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Society and Liverpool Theatres Trust, as well as smaller initiatives such as the Lantern Festival (pictured) and Africa Oyé.
Jason Harborow, Chief Operating Officer of the Liverpool Culture Company, said, These organisations& are central to delivering key aspects of the artistic programme. By providing certainty that their funding is in place leading up to and including 2008, they will be better able to plan delivery in these years. Over the next three years, a further £1.2m will be available for arts organisations and community groups to pay for projects. A further £16.2m has been allocated for events in 2008 itself.
