International cultural leaders will be gathering at The Sage Gateshead between 14 and 18 June for the World Summit on Arts and Culture, focusing on the theme of regeneration through arts and culture. Expected to attract an international audience of about 500 cultural leaders, policy makers and regeneration leaders, the Summit will be hosted by Arts Council England in partnership with the International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies.

The organisers of the European Capital of Culture 2008 have announced that two tourist information centres will be established to provide both information and ticketing services for cultural activities in the city. To be known as The 08 Place and billed as Britains only Culture One Stop Shop, one bureau will be located in the city centre and the other at Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

LIFT (London International Festival of Theatre) is looking to make its archive of materials relating to international artistis and theatre-makers available to the public, and has commissioned research to explore the possibility of developing the LIFT Living Archive. Fivearts cities, an initiative developed by Arts Council England and TV station Five, has chosen Oxford to be this years city with a community music project at its heart. Forty inexperienced singers from Oxfords Blackbird Leys estate will be given three months of training and rehearsals, leading to a debut performance at Classic FMs Royal Albert Hall Concert. A four-part documentary series will track their journey, and will be broadcast in the summer as the central focus of a year-long initiative to encourage Oxford communities to take part in and enjoy the arts.
