Work has begun on a dedicated carnival arts centre in Luton, which is due to open in 2007. The £6.2m centre will provide education, training, workshops, seminars and showcase performances, as well as working to raise the profile and status of carnival arts nationally.

Luton currently hosts the UKs largest one-day festival (pictured) which attracts over 150,000 visitors to the town every May. Funding for the initiative has been generated through a partnership between Arts Council England (ACE), the East of England Development Agency and Luton Borough Council with support from the European Regional Development Fund.
