SAM?s Books, the specialist supplier of books for arts management is changing its operations. Instead of carrying stock, it will in future be identifying and sourcing relevant publications which it will sell through links with Amazon and specialist publishers. The company is offering sale prices on its existing stock until 30 November, including titles relating to management matters, professional development, cultural policy and reference books for running arts organisations.

Rambert Dance Company?s Simon Cooper has been announced as the recipient of the inaugural Jane Attenborough Dance in Education Fellowship, funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation. The £50,000 award will enable Rambert Dance Company to provide intensive support to help Simon make the transition from company dancer into education and community work. He will be particularly involved in Rambert Education?s Lambeth Schools Project, also funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation.

A contest for the first ever award for performance poetry, presented by performance poetry company Apples & Snakes, reaches its final phase at the South Bank Centre on 1 December. Five of the UK?s best spoken-word artists, including Zena Edwards (pictured) will go head-to-head for the £10,000 Arts Foundation fellowship award, before an audience and a panel of judges.

A new network for independent theatre companies has been created to build links between companies and practitioners in the West Midlands area, and will be launched at an event at Warwick Arts Centre on 3 December. Researchers based in UK Higher Education Institutions or Public Sector Research Establishments are being invited to participate in the Research Councils? Business Plan Competition 2005/06. The competition is aimed at would-be entrepreneurs who want to turn their research ideas into a successful business, and is open to researchers from science, technology, social science and the arts. The winning team will get up to £25,000 to further their business idea.
