A major cultural programme has been announced as part of Glasgow?s bid to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games. As well as specific events, including comedy, opera, piping and jazz, the city will commission permanent public art and light installations using artists from Scotland and across the Commonwealth.
The bid, led by Glasgow City Council with the backing of the Scottish Executive, hopes to emulate the impact the Commonwealth Games had on Manchester in 2002 and to build on the momentum developed by London?s successful bid to host the 2012 Olympics.
