News – Anti-touting measures
Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell has met with representatives of sports and the arts in an attempt to develop Government policy in response to the issue of ticket touting. Organisations including the Concert Promoters Association, the Society of London Theatre, and the Society of Ticket Agents and Retailers were invited to suggest ways to tackle the growing problems relating to online touting.
Legislation outlawing ticket touting relating to Olympic events is already included in the Olympic Bill, currently before Parliament, and Ministers are considering extending legislation to cover other areas affected by touts. Meetings with industry figures are being scheduled over the next few months before the Department for Culture, Media and Sport offers firm proposals.
