News – Scottish Theatre launch
A determinedly Scottish season of new plays, site-specific work, classics and musicals has been launched by the National Theatre of Scotland (NTS). Opening in February next year with free events across the country, the programme is built around several schools of work which will be staged over the course of 2006.
?NTS Unmissable? covers the revival of recent successful Scottish plays by Anthony Neilson and Davey Anderson; ?NTS Ensemble? will involve professional actors staging small-scale productions with community groups; and ?NTS Learn? will co-ordinate education and outreach work. New commissions include co-productions with Grid Iron and Improbable Theatre, and new work from Gregory Burke and David Harrower. Speaking at the launch, Scottish Culture Minister, Patricia Ferguson said, ?We are a small country but we have big cultural and artistic ambitions, and the National Theatre of Scotland will exemplify that ambition with challenging, thought-provoking and groundbreaking material.?
