News – Drive on licences
Ahead of the introduction of new public entertainment and alcohol licences later this month, the Government has introduced new Temporary Event Notices (TEN) for organisations wishing to stage one-off public entertainments.
Events covered by a TEN can last for up to 96 hours and must involve no more than 499 people; each licence will cost £21, and applications must be submitted to local authorities at least ten days in advance of planned events. Unlicensed organisations, or venues such as pubs that have a licence which does not extend to public performance, will be able to apply for up to 12 TENs each year. The new legislation will bring temporary events under closure powers enabling the police to close down events in response to complaints about disorder or excessive noise.
