Creative & Cultural Skills, the training and skills council for the creative industries, has appointed a task force to launch an apprenticeship programme for the cultural sector to establish work-based training for young people. The task force will now begin to look for employers from across the creative industries to offer advice on the design and delivery of the programme.
Pilot schemes will then be launched in London and Scotland next autumn, before being extended throughout the UK. The task force includes representatives for the craft, music, theatre and heritage sectors and will be chaired by Tony Hall, Chief Executive of the Royal Opera House and Chairman of Creative & Cultural Skills. A new technical apprenticeship scheme has just been launched at Birmingham Repertory Theatre offering six young people aged 16 to 21 the opportunity to train in vocationally specific areas within the theatre?s production and technical departments, including sound, lighting, wigs and makeup, wardrobe, stage management and technical stage management.
