In the wake of the decision to cut capital funding to Talawa Theatre Company, Arts Council England (ACE) has commissioned a review of the needs of Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) theatre nationally.
ACE has faced criticism from Black theatre practitioners over the decision to withdraw £4m allocated to Talawa?s development of a dedicated home for Black theatre, and has made a commitment that the money will be spent on BME theatre nationally. A number of open consultation meetings are planned through the autumn, one-on-one meetings are being scheduled with selected organisations, and written submissions will be accepted. Baroness Lola Young will lead the process and prepare a final report by March 2006.
