The Unicorn Theatre, the UK?s first ever purpose-built professional theatre for children, will open its doors on 1 December. Designed by Keith Williams Architects, the £13m Lottery-funded building comprises a 340-seat main auditorium, a 120-seat studio and a dedicated education centre, plus rehearsal and green rooms and a café.

The Theatre?s new season, which opens with Tony Graham directing David Wood?s adaptation of Philippa Pearce?s Tom?s Midnight Garden (pictured) in the main auditorium, reflects Unicorn?s aims of tackling issues surrounding childhood today, hosting the best national and international companies and adapting children?s classics for a modern audience. A new community initiative from Barclays PLC in partnership with the Unicorn will enable more than 1,500 children from across London to see the opening production during a special preview week.
