Visitor figures to London galleries have dropped by over a quarter in the wake of the July bombs on London?s transport network. According to figures published in The Art Newspaper, visitor numbers at the National Gallery dropped by 46% in the first week of August, compared with the same week last year.
Visitor numbers to Tate Modern and The British Museum were also significantly down, with major London galleries reporting an average reduction in admissions of 26%. The news coincided with the launch of Everyone?s London, a series of public events running through September promoted by the Mayor of London. Made up of over 100 events, festivals and themed days out, the initiative is designed to boost London?s cultural and tourist economy.
